Open Start then head to Windows Security then Firewall & network protection. Here’s where Windows decides what can talk to the internet – and what cannot. Most users never check it.
Click Allow an app through firewall and you’ll see Edge, Teams, Feedback Hub, Game Bar, Copilot — each with checkboxes for private, public, inbound, outbound. Uncheck too much, and suddenly updates fail or apps break.
The real power is in Advanced settings. Outbound rules let you block programs from reaching out entirely — no third‑party tools required. That’s where you see telemetry, analytics, license checks, cloud syncing — all the background chatter.
