Run Claude Code FREE with Gemma 4 — But There’s a Catch

Google just dropped Gemma 4, and you can run it three ways with one command each — chat, an AI agent, and the Claude Code app — all free and local on your Mac.

But here’s the catch most videos won’t tell you: it’s not really Claude. Ollama just plugs the Claude Code interface into Gemma 4. The model doing the work is a small 12B local model, not Opus. Great for free chat, okay for light coding, not a real Claude replacement. Note: the mlx commands are Mac only.
