Microsoft Corporation is actively testing an upgraded system recovery architecture in Windows 11 designed to streamline cloud OS reinstallations and enhance hardware-level data security prior to device resale, corporate decommissioning, or recycling. Integrated into the new Cloud Rebuild recovery engine, the feature introduces a dedicated “Remove & sanitize files” option that sends native sanitization commands directly to underlying solid-state drives (SSDs).
