Welcome back to Silicophilic.
Here’s how you can enable or disable Smart App Control.
Microsoft promised we’d be able to toggle it freely after the latest update. But when I checked, the option was still grayed out.
Smart App Control, or SAC, is Windows 11’s built‑in security bouncer. It blocks unsigned or risky apps using Microsoft’s cloud intelligence. The catch? Once you turn it off, you usually can’t turn it back on without reinstalling Windows. That’s why gamers and power users feel stuck.
The Problem in Practice
After the February update, tech sites claimed the toggle was fixed. But here’s what happened when I tried: I turned it off — and the switch grayed out. No way back.
Here’s how to check:
On your PC Open Settings from the Start menu.
Go to Privacy & Security.
Click Windows Security then App & Browser Control.
Select Smart App Control.
If the toggle is locked, you’re not alone. Either the rollout isn’t complete, or there’s a bug.
