I Installed PrimeOS on an Old PC… And I Don’t Want to Go Back to Windows!
What happens when you take a 12-year-old office PC with just 4GB of RAM and replace Windows with Android? That’s exactly what I wanted to find out by installing PrimeOS on an old Dell OptiPlex 7020!
Instead of upgrading the hardware, I kept the original Intel Core i5-4590 and 4GB of RAM to see whether PrimeOS could actually breathe new life into this aging machine. The version I tested is based on Android 11, which may sound outdated, but the results were much more impressive than I expected.
Installation was ridiculously fast, boot times were surprisingly short, and PrimeOS transformed the OptiPlex into a full Android desktop complete with a taskbar, multi-window support, Alt+Tab multitasking, mouse and keyboard controls, and access to the Google Play Store.
I tested everyday web browsing on Reddit, Wikipedia and Google Maps, pushed YouTube playback all the way up to 4K, and installed popular apps like Spotify…
